Pokémon GO: Update will fix CurveBall bug and more

Pokemon GO Update Will Fix Curveball Bug and More

It’s no secret that Pokémon GO has been plagued with a laundry list of bugs since launch, but Niantic is constantly working to roll out fixes for each of the problems.

Some issues stay in the game longer than others, but, since Battle Raids started over the summer, trainers have been begging for a solution to the CurveBall bug. Luckily, it sounds like the fix has finally arrived.

The CurveBall bug is a problem that makes it so that the game doesn’t recognize a throw as a CurveBall, even if the player clearly spun the ball and threw at an angle. This means that the player misses out on a small fraction of experience bonus, but the real problem is that it impacts the rate catch. Throwing a curveball gives players a multiplier to their odds of catching, and, when facing off against Legendaries that have a 2% base catch rate, every multiplier point really counts.

According to Niantic, the latest update for the game resolves the curveball bug in addition to a short list of other fixes. Update 0.77.1 for Android and 1.47.1 for iOS devices should be rolling out now, so keep an eye on your app for the patch.

Trainers, Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.77.1 for Android and 1.47.1 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.

  • A confirmation dialogue now appears when attempting to transfer costumed Pokémon.
  • Costumed Pokémon can no longer be mass-transferred.
  • Resolved a bug causing occasional network errors while battling in Gyms.
  • Resolved a bug causing Raid Battle lobbies to display the incorrect number of Trainers preparing for battle.
  • Resolved a bug causing the Pokémon selected in the Raid Battle lobby to be reset after clicking the items button.
  • Resolved a bug where some Curveballs weren’t registering properly.
  • Various bug fixes and performance updates.

The CurveBall fix is definitely the most exciting part of the update, but some of these other changes will be great for quality of life improvements. The Battle Raid lobby bug has caused a lot of chaos and makes it very difficult to tell if everyone is queued for the battle together. This fix, in addition to the others, will definitely be a welcome change to the game.
